With 2020 being a stressful year globally, everyone is looking for ways to relax and unwind. Some of you may be frontline workers, while others have been dealing with the monotonous routine of working from home. Everybody has had a shift in how they are going about their day-to-day lives. Managing your stress in a productive and healthy way can clear your mind and help you focus on the good in life. Here are some ways to ease your stress during these unprecedented times:
Increase Your Time Spent Outdoors
Getting outside and enjoying the fresh air and daylight can be a mood booster. The days are getting shorter, and the weather is getting cooler, but taking this time to get out and stretch your body can help you more than you think. Take advantage of it now before the New England winter weather sets in!
Embrace Creativity
If you are looking to learn a new hobby or skill, this is a great time to do so! It can be anything from learning to cook, bake, knit, embroider, or even become interested in puzzles. Anything that you can do to clear your mind and use your focus on can be a great way to reduce stress and anxiety. If you are looking for something really simple, buy a coloring book and some crayons. It’s an easy way to relax and enjoy some time away from electronics.
Limit Your Screen Time Outside of Work
For most people, a typical workday will involve some screen time at some point in the day. When the workday is said and done, take some time away from screens, social media, or even TV. Take a bath, go for that walk, or cook an elaborate dinner. Give yourself at least an hour without looking at your phone or laptop. You’ll feel refreshed, and your mind will be less stressed when trying to separate your workday from your nightly routine.
Take Charge of What You Can
Everything in the world is uncertain, and there is only so much you can do about it. There are plenty of other aspects in life that you do have control over, though. What has been stressing you out beside the pandemic? Many people have put other things aside because of the stress thrown on the world. Have you meant to do some cleaning around your home? Did you want to go through your closet and donate some items and totally forgot until now? Take care of things that you know you can. The rest will be figured out! Everyone is in the same boat.
